MANILA, Philippines — Senatorial candidate Camille Villar listened to concerns of vendors when she toured public markets in Silay and Talisay in Negros Occidental on Friday.
The market tour was part of Villar’s campaign for her senatorial bid in the May 12 elections. She is running under the administration ticket, Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipino.
Villar, who has been pushing for job creations and self-sufficiency, thanked the people of Silay and Talisay as well as Bacolod for their warm welcome.
“I am always returning here because of your delicious food,” Villar said, adding she tasted local delicacies such as suman and bitso-bitso.
If she gets elected in May, Villar said she would focus on creating jobs to help improve the quality of life.
“We have to support the agricultural industry,” she said.
Villar said vendors she talked to complained of high prices of basic commodities such as rice, fish and vegetables.
She vowed to support efforts intended to bridge the gap between farmers and traders to bring down prices of commodities, especially rice.
