CAMARINES SUR — “It’s the choice of the public.”
Such was the response of Senate hopeful Camille Villar when she was asked about her family being tagged as a political dynasty.
“I think we’ve already addressed that. It’s a question that’s often asked to us and our answer is that all the candidates that are put in a position are elected, so it’s the choice of the public,” she told reporters in an ambush interview.
Prior to her statement, her mother — Sen. Cynthia Villar — already said in a Kapihan sa Manila Bay forum that she sees nothing wrong with a political dynasty working hard and serving the people well.
Earlier, Sen. Villar was also asked if she considered her family a political dynasty, to which she answered that they are a “good dynasty.”
Camille’s father, Manny Villar served as speaker of the House of Representatives before he was elected senator in 2001.
In July 2006, with the staunch support of a majority of his colleagues, Manny assumed the Senate presidency during the third regular session of the 13th Congress.
Camille’s brother Mark is also an incumbent senator.
